Kite buggying - boarding: Ynyslas Wind Direction: w Wind Stength: 12 Surf / Sea State: Air Temperature: Sea Temperature: Weather: cloud/rain Max Speed: Distance Covered:
8 hours of non stop mountain board kiting. WG forcast 7-10 so I went down
at 11 when there should just be enough sand to use with a westerly. Felt a
bit silly donning a wetsuit to go landboarding but I wanted to use the wet
sand as the tide fell. Was really glad though when an hour later it stated
to rain... once it got really heavy the few other kites gave up and I had
the entire 3 mile beach to myself despite not being able to see it ! The
beach was completely covered in 1/4 inch of water and the wind
increased(Weather station showed a peak of about 17) soooo much fun
charging through the layer of mirror like water. Was really surreal because
Aberdovey and the hills disappeared in the rain, as did Borth all I could
see were the closest groynes, a mirror like sheet of water with big
raindrops hitting it - and my wheel tracks and spray plume vanishing into
the distance.
Eventually the rain cleared, wind held and save for a couple of kiters the
beach totally deserted did the run from the estuary down to the lifeboat
station in Borth several times. More hours of fun and then the wind
suddenly really started to build to the point of being too much on the land
with the 12m LEI. Packed up and I think I saw justal go out windsurfing.
Back to the car and it was 7pm !! 8 hours non stop apart from a couple of
brief conversations with the other kiters at various point. Two kit
failures today. Found both trucks loose (all 4 bolts!) Real glad they
didnt come off :) when washing the board and worn through the outer layer
of the chicken loop power rope... on my bar.
